The Record Store
Two stories of DVDs, CDs, T-shirts, posters, video games, stuffed animals, all things media. Today I ventured into one of the only places left that sells physical copies of CDs: Sam Goody, downtown San Diego. When I was little I would save up my money for weeks, sometimes months. Finally, I would have enough, and after the family had dinner at Red Robin in the North County Fair mall, I'd rush over to the store across the way (can't remember if it was The Warehouse or Sam Goody) and buy a tape, then later a CD. I would search for what I wanted, walk up to the cashier, stand on my tip-toes and hand over my money. I'd wait until I was in the car to take off the plastic wrap, relishing the moment and inhaling the smell of the casing and liner notes. Slowly, I've seen the record stores go out of business, and even the bigger electronic stores have began to "phase out" physical copies of albums. It's all gone digital, but there will always be a place for the CD in my life, just as vinyl will always be in my father's life.
